Step Up to the Challenge
In a time when diabetes and childhood obesity have reached epidemic proportions, and learning/behavioural problems are being increasingly attributed to poor diets and lack of exercise, there is an urgent need for communities to rally together and support children in the development of healthy habits early in life. The Victoria School Wellness Challenge offers members of the community with the opportunity to play a lead role in delivering fitness and nutrition directly into the classroom and allowing kids to create a healthier future. Here’s how you can support the challenge:
1. Sponsor a class, create a legacy. By making a donation to the Greater Victoria School District/Healthy Schools Program for the purchase of a classroom set of pedometers, you will enable an entire class to take on the school wellness challenge. Following the challenge your donation will continue to benefit future generations, as the pedometer set will be made available to all schools within the district for other active living programs (your organization’s logo can be printed on the pedometers at an additional cost).
2. Donate funds for fruits, vegetables and other nutritious food items for students in the challenge.
3. Donate prizes, to provide students with additional incentives for taking on the challenge.
Recognizing Our Community Heroes
In return for your generous support of the Victoria School Wellness Challenge, your contribution will be recognized at various levels based on the size of your donation. Donor benefits may include having your organization's logo on the pedometers, having your company logo and website link on the Victoria School Wellness Challenge website, placement of your organization's brochures/coupons in participant goodie bags, and/or exposure through media coverage for the initiative. All monetary donations from businesses or individuals will receive a tax receipt.
